World's First Dual-SIM WIndows Mobile Phone Keeps Girlfriends and Wives Separate [Smartphones]

Dual-SIM phones that let you have your phone be simultaneously on two GSM networks are nothing new, but until now they've been on regular phones. This makes no sense. Who needs two phones? Businessmen. And businessmen need phones that scream "I AM A BUSINESSMAN!" Few do that better than Windows Mobi

AMD's $69 2.8GHz Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition CPU Reviewed (Verdict: Not Bad For the Price)

Years ago I used to build with AMD processors because I was looking for decent power at an affordable price. Their new Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition claims to do that for only $69. So far reviews have been generally positive, with the consensus being that the 2.8GHz chip with 2MB of L3 cache is

Disposable Paper Laptops

Disposable Paper Laptops

I quite agree with Je Sung Park when he says that disposable cameras and cell phones have gained acceptance, so why don’t we take the next step and bring out a disposable computer. His Recyclable Paper Laptop is quite a raw version and could do with some refinement. It uses recycled paper or pul

Iomega eGo Hard Drives Are Pretty Enough, Cheap Enough

Iomega eGo Hard Drives Are Pretty Enough, Cheap Enough

I don't ask much of portable hard drives: they should be affordable, easy on the eyes, and better not require an external power source. So I kinda like Iomega's pretty, cheap(ish), USB-powered eGo drives. The price isn't super-low, but these drives, which start at $85 for the 250GB model and top ou

Soluto Is an Awesome Tool to Speed Up Your System Boot, Fix System Slowdowns

Soluto Is an Awesome Tool to Speed Up Your System Boot, Fix System Slowdowns

Windows only: Soluto bills itself as an “Anti-Frustration ”, and it’s not hard to see why—it tracks all the applications in your system boot process, and tells you exactly which ones are slowing you down.

Once you’ve installed the software and rebooted your PC, Soluto springs into action, tracking every single process that runs during the boot process, and then allows you to easily drill down into the list of processes to see exact times for each one. To make it easier for the layman to understand what processes can be removed, the applications are grouped into “No-brainer” or “Potentially removable” groups.

Soluto Is an Awesome Tool to Speed Up Your System Boot, Fix System SlowdownsOnce you’ve identified an application that you’d like to deal with, you can drill down into the details and control it directly from this screen. You can “Pause” the application, which will effectively remove it from the boot process, or you can “Delay” it, which will change the service to run on a delay instead of directly during the boot process—which will get you to a working desktop a little quicker.

The graph next to the buttons shows you what other users did, so if you really have no idea what something is, you can use the wisdom of the crowd—though we’d like to point out if you really aren’t sure, you might want to Google it first, or ask a more geeky friend.

Clicking the Read more link next to the application name will bring you to a screen that shows even more details about a process, including the process name, what percentage of Soluto users have it installed, and a lot more information.

Other than tracking your boot process, you can also enable tracking while you are running your PC, which will allow Soluto to try and identify more problems with system slowdowns, compatibility, and other issues. You can choose the “My PC Just Frustrated Me” option, which will pop up a screen with some suggestions on what applications might be the cause, and send the report to Soluto—though you won’t immediately see any results from doing so.

?

According to our conversations with Roee Adler from Soluto, the software will always be free for end-users. Soluto’s application does send some information about your PC back to Soluto’s servers in order to analyze your system, but they assured us that it was limited strictly to data about the processes, drivers, and system components, and no personal information is transmitted or kept anywhere.

Soluto is a free download for Windows only, and definitely worth a look if you’d like to troubleshoot your system boot speed issues.
