[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/422742[/vimeo] If you can forgive the crap music, you'll just love this video of Google Earth mashed up with a hologram machine. This is real, and I want one very, very badly. By combining a 2D mid-air projection system and motion sensors, the device gives you a gesture-base

Why Should I Want This MID

Why Should I Want This MID

Really, why would I want this MID (Mobile Internet Device) over the current iPhone I use? Lord! I know you’re up to your neck with Apple banging, so for a change let’s compare it to an LG Arena, Samsung I7500 or even BlackBerry Storm 2. Where does this MID score over the rest of these Internet

Google Wants to Kill JPEGs With New WebP Format

These pictures look the same—but they're not. Because the sign on the right, hypothetically, takes up nearly 40% less space. That's the version in WebP, Google's plan to speed up the internet by slimming down its images. What is WebP? It's a new graphics format that Google hopes will make file

Scientists Discover How to Extend Lifespans without Starving Yourself [Science]

Restricting yourself to a super-low calorie diet has been discovered as a way to extend your lifespan by a noticeable number of years, but it comes with a pretty lousy side effect: you don't get to eat anything. Newly Announced Motorola Defy is Rugged and Runs Android 2.1

motodefy

Who said rugged meant a had to actually look like a piece of military equipment? With the announcement of the Motorola Defy, Moto brings their second handset specced out to resist the elements and keep chugging under even the most hostile conditions. Taking a page from the Motorola i1’s book, the Defy is prepared to take a beating (if it has to). You get a 3.7-inch Gorilla Glass display at 854×480 resolution and built to IP67 durability specifications, the handset is resistant to dust, scratches, impact, and water up to a meter deep for as long as a half hour without even stuttering.

The phones OMAP 3610 chip is clocked at 800MHz and Swype is included as a software keyboard option. A downside here is the phone is planned to launch around Europe in Q4 this year with Android 2.1. No word on Froyo for the device as of yet. At least it isn’t launching with Android 1.6, however.
