Canon’s G12 is a lot like the fantastic G11 pro point-and-shoot. Same sensor, practically same body, but now with 720p HD video and a “high sensitivity” mode. No fantastical advances—on the upside, G11 owners, don’t you feel better?

Also announced was the SX30 IS, a camera with a 35x wide angle optical zoom lens and optical image stabilization.

Along with the G12, Canon’s SX30 IS camera has a couple of updates that SX20 owners will frown at—but on the whole, it’s really just the super telephoto lens which will bring out the green facial hues.

It has a 14.1MP sensor with DIGIC 4 image processor and 2.7-inch multi-angle LCD screen.

The Nikon Coolpix S80 takes up where the S70 left off: bumping the megapixels up to 14.1 (from 12.1), upgrading the 3.5″ touchscreen to OLED, and rounding some corners for a decidedly sleeker (like .7″ thick sleek) look.

The S80′s touchscren will let you draw and stamp right on your pictures, just like recently announced S1100pj projector-cam, and it carries over the S70′S 5x optical zoom and 720p video capabilities.

Any point-and-shoot can fit in your bag, but not every point-and-shoot can fit in your pants. The super-slim Nikon S8100, however, doesn’t sacrifice power for pocketability: it shoots 1080p video; and has 10x optical zoom and 10fps full-res high-speed shooting.

Oh, I’ve been waiting for this little camera for a long time: A pro-worthy Nikon point-and-shoot. After the bizarre melange of features in Nikon’s last flagship camera—uh, ethernet jack?—the P7000 is nakedly all about performance.
